CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The International Solar Energy Society invites you to submit an abstract for considering by the Scientific Programme Committee for participation at the ISES Solar World Congress programme. The Congress is scheduled to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 11 – 14 October 2009. The theme of the congress is “Renewable Energy Shaping our Future”. Abstracts will be reviewed according to the following main themes and sub-themes.

Abstract Submission Instructions & Guidelines
General Policies:
1. Abstracts can only be submitted electronically through the ISES SWC 2009 Congress website: www.swc2009.co.za. Abstracts submitted to the congress secretariat directly through any other means cannot not be accepted for review.
2. By submitting an abstract, the authors understand that, if selected, one or more of the authors will personally present the paper or poster at the Congress and that such authors are liable to pay the full registration fee by 31 July 2009. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from the final Congress programme.
3. Abstracts must be submitted in English.
4. The final paper submission process will be communicated separately.

Abstract Format Guidelines:
1. Abstracts must be submitted in Arial plain font, size 11.
2. Abstracts must not exceed 200 words in total (excluding abstract title)
3. The abstract title must not exeed 15 words and be in Sentence Case.
4. Abstracts must not include any graphic images, photos, tables, graphs or columns.
5. You may draft your abstract in text format in Microsoft Word or a similar programme, then copy and paste the text in the online abstract submission box.
6. Abstracts should be informative and contain the following information:
· Background and objectives
· Method
· Results
· Conclusion
Abstract Submission Guidelines:
The online abstract submission system is user friendly. You will be guided through the submission procedure. Please follow the instructions as shown on the webpage.
Step 1: Submitting author demographic details
You will be required to supply us with the following information:

Step 2: Submission of the abstract title, presentation type, theme and sub-theme
The following fields will need to be completed under their respective headings:
1. Preferred presentation type: Indicate if you are submitting an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. Kindly note that the
requested presentation type cannot be guaranteed.
2. Preferred theme and sub-theme: Select the preferred theme and sub-theme for the abstract submission. Kindly note that abstracts may be
allocated to another theme or sub-theme in the final programme by the Scientific Programme Committee.
Step 3: Submission of the abstract
Copy or type the abstract text (maximum 200 words) in the area provided. Do not include any graphic images, photos, tables, graphs or columns.
Abstracts that report research findings should contain the following concise statements:
Background: The description of the problem or the hypothesis, the study
objectives
Methods: Study methods used or approaches
taken
Results: Specific results in summarized
form
Conclusions: statement about the main outcomes.
Abstracts for reporting on strategies / projects should contain the following concise
statements:
Back ground: Short statement summarizing the issue(s) addressed by the
abstract
Methods A brief description of the project,
experience, program, or research
Results: A brief description of the results or
lessons learned
Conclusions: A brief statement of next steps / recommendations
Step 4: Co-Authors Demographic Details
Here you will be required to supply us with the co-authors information (if any):
· Title

· Affiliations
(Organisations)
NOTE: Do not add the submitting author's details here, as it has already been specified in Step 1.
Step 5: Presenting author's biography
Include a short biography of the presenting author. This biography will be used in relevant congress material and by the chairperson of the allocated session. Please note
that a maximum of 100 words will be allowed.
Step 6: Verification of information provided in steps 1 – 5.
All the details that have been provided in the abstract submission process will be presented for verification
Abstract Reviewing Process:
1. Abstract will be reviewed and scored by two (2) designated theme Scientific Programme Committee Members. The reviewers will not have access to submitting author or co-authors' details and will therefore not know the origins of the abstract to promote impartiality.
2. Authors will receive a notification via email whether their abstracts have been accepted or not, by 8 May 2009.
3. A further notification via email will follow at the end of June 2009 whether an abstract has been accepted as an oral or poster presentation.
4. Authors will be informed via email during July 2009 of the final allocation of their presentation, including confirmation of the final presentation title, the date, time and venue in which the presentation will take place.
